GBuy is now officially Google Checkout
GBuy Google Checkout is finally here, LIVE.
Luckily it’s not called GBuy, else it would spell a marketing disaster among the chinese community.
For those who can speak chinese dialect – “Hokkien”, you will get I mean.
To summarize:
Basically, Google Checkout is a checkout process that advertisers integrate with their websites. Customers who visit their sites can use this checkout option to buy from them using a single username and password. And once they do, advertisers can use Google Checkout to charge their credit cards, process their orders, and deposit funds in their bank accounts.
Apparently, Google Checkout ties in closely with Google Adwords(smart move, google). For every $1 spent on AdWords, merchants can processs $10 in sales at no cost. Which mean if merchant spend an average USD 100 per month, you can process up to USD 1000 at no extra cost! And if you exceed the ceiling limit, additional processing will only cost 2% + USD0.20. It’s dirt cheap by any standards.
Anothing interesting thing is, Google Checkout also offers merchants a Payment Guarantee policy to help protect against chargebacks. Chargebacks, as most online merchants know it, is one of the most critical issues faced by the online merchants as it’s practically no surefire way to prevent it.
For time being, Google Checkout is for US Merchant only. Will it finally support Malaysia Merchants? Let’s keep our finger crossed, meanwhile, I won’t go in details here as I will let my colleague to blog in details and depth about Google Checkout – to be integrated into webShaper e-commerce soon.
