We were “Down” (but not out)
In case you don’t realize, when we got back to work after the Global SME 2006 events, our office’s phone network went busted. We thought we owe Telekom some serious money (but heck, we pay on time). We checked around, we discovered that all our neighbors’ phone network was down as well. Crap, !@#!%@#% Major crisis for guys like us who relied heavily on Internet.
The major caused?? Major cable connected to local loop was “STOLEN” (yes, read my lips, STOLEN!). Some speculate it might due to the high price of the copper wire. It takes Telekom almost 2 weeks and 3 days to get it fixed. We were left without connection, no phone + no internet = NO LIFE. We also suffered opportunity cost as enquiry will not be able to reach us via the phone!
Instead of complaining, we work around the problem. All of us either work at home (SOHO style in pajamas) or working at nearby restaurant/cafe with FREE WiFi connection. So, it’s still business as usual for us as we need to support our clients and still continue to do some serious development work which can further benefit our clients (and our clients’ clients).
Just a few days back, another hiccup happened during Tmnet data center (myloca) maintenance. Our server was affected this time. Our website was down almost 2 hours 43 minutes. It affects a lot of others too.

Now, thinking about it, can imagine how a day like without Internet connection? Modern days people like us are just too dependent on electricity, phone and internet.
The good thing is, it remind us it’s time for us to “cook up” a solid contingency plan in case all the above hiccups shall happen again. I will bet my name on it that IT WILL! So, let’s just get ourselves prepared.
