Asia-Pacific B2C E-Commerce Awakens

Interesting report, an even more interesting quote
“Smaller developing countries in the region, such as Thailand, the Philippines and Malaysia, are also on track to become viable e-commerce economies.”
So do we finally see the dawn of e-commerce?
nah…. come on, based on just a report?
The report also quoted the challenges faced by the regional countries (esp China and India) in achieving sustainable e-commerce growth.
“Immature online payment systems, poor delivery networks and distrust between buyers and sellers, to name just a few.”
Hmm… immature online payment system best describing Malaysia situation, with banks being so conservative in offering such services and only a handful of 3rd party Internet Payment Providers available (note, our shopping cart software support the most Malaysia Payment Gateways).
Poor delivery networks? You bet POS malaysia can do a better job in this. Read the nudges here and here. We need someone to step up against the monopolist!
As for the distrust issues, i would say it’s not unique to only certain countries, it happens almost in every corner of the world - How do you trust a seller or a buyer you never met? No interaction via voice, body languages, eye contact and no physical credit cards during purchase! - that’s gotta be tough, right? This is why our next post is going to talk about how to build trust online, especially for the merchants.
Read the full report here, we have converted it into pdf for your reading pleasure.
